Roofing & Exterior Services in Wheaton, MD

Wheaton has some of the oldest housing in the county. From Kemp Mill and Wheaton Forest to Glenmont and Connecticut Avenue Estates, we look at the whole roof before recommending repair or replacement.

Wheaton homes and their roofs

Wheaton's median home was built in 1960, and a third of homes date from the 1950s. Kemp Mill, for example, was largely built in the 1950s and 1960s with brick houses on 6,000 to 9,000 square foot lots, while Springbrook Forest has large lots and an abundance of big trees. Houses this age can have older plank decking, original chimney flashing and limited attic ventilation, all of which affect a replacement scope.

Permits and approvals in Wheaton

Wheaton is unincorporated, so permits come from Montgomery County DPS, whose customer service center is in Wheaton at 2425 Reedie Drive. DPS lists "Roof (covering only)" among jobs that most likely do not need a permit; replacing structural decking or working on a historic property is different. We confirm what your address needs before work starts.

Trees and hail in Wheaton

Tree canopy around Glenmont measured about 41% in the county's 2011 analysis, well above the downtown cores, and neighborhoods like Springbrook Forest are heavily wooded. NOAA also recorded quarter-size hail near Glenmont on July 1, 2021. Overhanging limbs, clogged gutters and hail-bruised shingles are worth checking each year.

How a Wheaton roof project works with us

It starts with a free inspection at your address. We look at the shingles, flashing, drainage and accessible ventilation, then give you a written estimate. Maryland requires home improvement contracts to be in writing and to show the contractor's license number; ours is MHIC #164924. You also have 3 business days after signing to cancel in writing.

Common questions

My Wheaton house has the original 1950s decking. Does it need replacing?

Not always. During the inspection we look at the decking from the attic where accessible, and the estimate states an allowance for any boards that turn out to be damaged once the old roof is removed.

Is a permit needed to re-roof in Wheaton?

Montgomery County DPS lists a covering-only replacement as most likely not needing a permit. Structural work does. We check before we start.

Can you also handle gutters?

Yes. We install seamless gutters and can quote them alongside your roof so drainage is planned as one system.
